Every big sale, on your radar

UK sales run on a rhythm — the same big events come back around every year. Learn the calendar, keep the live deal pages one tap away, and shop sales with a plan instead of a panic.

The recurring rhythm

The UK sale calendar

These events return every year. Exact dates and depth vary, so treat this as a radar picture, not a promise — and always judge each price on its own merits.

New year

January sales

The classic post-Christmas clearance across almost every category as retailers reset for spring. Traditionally strong for fitness gear, bedding, kitchen appliances and winter clothing.

Summer

Prime Day period

Amazon’s flagship event for Prime members, typically landing in summer, with a second member event that usually follows in autumn. Historically strongest on Amazon’s own devices, electronics and everyday essentials.

Late Nov

Black Friday & Cyber Monday

The biggest and broadest sale period of the year, now stretched across a week or more either side of the day itself. Wide category coverage — and the period where price-checking matters most.

Post-Xmas

Boxing Day sales

The traditional 26 December kick-off that flows straight into the January sales. Good hunting ground for gifts that missed Christmas, homeware and end-of-line stock clearing before the new year.

Before you tap buy

The sale shopping checklist

Sales are designed to make you hurry. This five-point pre-flight check takes two minutes and pays for itself every single event.

Make the list before the sale starts

Decide what you actually need — and a rough fair price for each item — while you’re calm. During the event, the list is the boss; anything not on it needs a very good reason.

Verify the discount is real

Run the item through an independent price-history tracker. Compare against the typical recent selling price, not the crossed-out RRP — that’s the whole game in one step.

Check the returns window and seller

Confirm who sells and dispatches the item and what the return policy is — sale periods sometimes carry different terms. A bargain you can’t return isn’t a bargain.

Cross-check one other retailer

Thirty seconds on a rival UK retailer’s site tells you whether the price is genuinely sharp or simply the market rate wearing a sale badge.

Sleep on anything expensive

For big-ticket items, add to basket and step away. The major events run for days — if it’s still a good decision tomorrow morning, buy it then. Urgency is a sales tool, not your friend.
